New Baby

We sold our house Tuesday, and baby Charles decided to come the Saturday afterward, 2 weeks early! I was hoping he would make it by may so all my babies could share a birth month, but he decided he would rather be an April baby! Labor was not as quick as Elia, but from first contraction to baby in my arms was about 11 hours. Not too shabby.

I snapped this right as the girls saw him for the first time.

A few hours old.

Back at home, this is a fave outfit!

New house

Tuesday, April 22 we finally put our house up for sale. Chris and I (but mostly Chris) had been working every weekend to make our house look good. There were a lot of bumps along the way. It felt like a comedy of errors was going to stop us from pulling the trigger! We kept saying if one more thing happens then we are not moving! Our hot water heater needed replacing. Our car needed repairs. Our car got broken into. A few weeks later our car got egged. Sewage backed up into our bath tubs and outside along the foundation of our house. The very morning we went live the ac leaked through our ceiling, creating a very noticeable spot in our newly painted ceiling. I left for work that morning with Chris diligently painting and blow drying the ceiling. However, by the end of that first day, we had 5 offers!! We accepted the best offer- $12,000 over our asking price! After all we had been through, this offer was a gift from the Man himself! That day we had also put an offer on a house in Arlington and they accepted. Now, a month later, we have officially closed on both houses.

Academic Museum

When I left the public school system, I thought I was leaving behind the awful stress of the TAKS/STAAR test.  Thank goodness I don't have to worry about an entire class passing 2 tests they have never seen before, but instead, my new school has academic museum.
Now don't get me wrong.  This is an amazing educational experience for my students (and this year, for Gianna)  Every student in my class has to research a topic, write a paper, create a timeline, draw a picture, a map, write a speech, and put it all together on a poster.  At home, they have to create a costume and a 3D project.  Whew.  Now that its all over, I can say it was well worth it, but with a snow day the Monday before it was all due, I was worried it wouldn't get all done.
Using kitchen utensils to go break up the ice.

All students 1st-8th grade have this project, and display it in the halls and gym of our school.  Then for an hour on Academic Museum night, parents, teachers and other guests can walk around and ask students anything they want about their topic.  This year, my students were studying plants in science, so they each picked a plant for their AM project.  They put the life cycle into a timeline, drew a map of where their plan grew, and drew and labeled a picture of their plant.  All the pictures I took of my students have their face in it, so I don't want to post for privacy reasons.
One of my students did the Tulip.  She wrote a paragraph on the history of the tulip, and there are very famous tulip gardens in Holland.  Here is her own Dutch Tulip garden 3D project.  She also dressed as a little Dutch girl.
I thought the hardest part of the project would be the costume.  They had the option of dressing up like a person from the region of where their plant grows, they could dress up as their plant, a farmer, a gardener, etc.  The creativity flowed here.  One student, who had the Sequoia tree, dressed up as John Muir, who discovered and studied them in California in the 1800s.  One student dressed in a lei and grass skirt for the palm tree.  One of my students had the Hibiscus, dressed like a little Hawaiian girl, and served hibiscus tea.  Her station had a constant stream of people!
My Water Lily (permission from mom to post)  This is my student, Lily :)

I dressed as a pregnant gardener.

Gianna's class had been studying Greece, and Gianna's specific topic was the Greek alphabet.  Her ending sentence in her paper was "My favorite part of the Greek alphabet is that instead of starting ABC, it starts ABG."  Love her creativity.  1st grade does the 3D project in class.  They made greek pottery and laurel wreath crowns.  We put her toga together at home.
She was so proud!
The night before academic museum and the day of, whenever I saw her at school, she kept telling me her tummy hurt.  I think it was nerves, she was so worried to present!  She could recite all the letters in the Greek alphabet.   In the bottom left corner of her poster, she put a picture of Chris and I in togas from the geek Olympics we did in Rome almost 10 years ago.  This was a great way to start Spring Break- we had the next day (Friday) and there were no more tummy aches after that :).
I'm glad its over.  I learned a lot, and already have ideas for next year that will make it even better.

February

Everything is looking good with Baby Charles!  During February we spent every weekend packing and fixing up the house.  We occasionally get out to do something fun..
Like go to Central Market.  Are you really into food?

A sick day for Elia

Gianna made her own Valentines.  They were really creative.  This was my favorite!

Someday I won't be lame and forget to take pictures of my sweeties.

January

New Years Eve was uneventful, as usual.  I think I made it to midnight, but I can't remember.  I was too excited for the next day, when Aunt Shanny and Uncle Tom came to visit with Baby Brendan!  Although he is less baby and more toddler now.  We didn't do anything spectacular- just hung out around the house, and had friends over one night for dinner.
We did venture out on the DART to visit downtown Carrollton.
Someone has a huge obsession with trains!

December

It has been so long!  A year ago, if I had taken a peek into my current life, I wouldn't have believed I could do it.  Chris and I both have new jobs, a long commute for me, brand new curriculum, cooking a baby, and to top it off, putting our house up for sale!  Its all going to be worth it though.  We found out in December that we will be welcoming a baby boy into our family.  We are going to name him Charles but are unsure of the middle name.
After we found out it was a boy, we went across
the street and picked out some gifts for our boy.
For Christmas, we spent a little over a week in Napa.  It was so fun, as usual.  I even got to see some college friends.
We went to my favorite winery.  I mostly talked, and of course drove.  :)
It was a very Frozen Christmas.  We saw the movie with all the girls- cousins and aunties.  There were a lot of Frozen themed toys at Christmas as well.

Chris and I were spoiled too, so much that we had to send 2 boxes home because all of our loot wouldn't fit in our suitcases!  Since almost all of the grown kids were back home, Grandma rented an RV, and the boys all slept in there.  They set it up with a tv and video games, and it was a very popular spot to visit from the 4 little girls.
Phoebe kept calling it the IV.  So cute!

We came home to Dallas late Saturday night to a tree with lots of present underneath it!  It was a wonderful Christmas.

Ice Storm Dallas 2013

Thursday around 4:30 I got the call that there would be no school tomorrow!  It started raining around 4:30 and then that started freezing soon after.  Chris even got Friday off, so we made the most of it by doing. nothing.
Sadly, Colleen and Bobby had to cancel their trip here.
Its like Mother Nature carved out a path of destruction, just for them from Missouri, through OK and into North Texas.  We will see them in the Spring.

Icicles!

Love this hat on Elia!

November and Pregnancy Update

I hardly took any pictures during November.  Thankfully by mid-November, the morning night sickness went away.  In some ways I was lucky, because I didn't start feeling really sick until about 5pm most days.  Which meant that I was in bed by 8pm 5-7 nights per week.  I would wake up feeling like a million bucks and then slowly throughout the day start to feel a little worse until I was so worried I might puke I would just go to bed to avoid the feeling.  We officially found out I was pregnant at the very end of August (although I had my suspicions before I saw the + sign).  I am due May 9th, which is hilarious because if I make it to May, we will have 4/5 birthdays in May in our family.  So far everything is going well, I have a healthy baby according to my most recent doctor appointment.  The best part of this pregnancy is that I have 2 little girls who are old enough to understand that I am pregnant!  They are seriously so excited, and this baby is so loved already!  I took the girls to my last appointment and they got to hear the heart beat.  On December 17th, I am going to take them out of school early for my 20 week sono so we can find out if baby is a boy or girl!  Its going to be so much fun.
I was 12 weeks right at the end of October, when Grandma Rowles happened to be in town.  Chris and I had been plotting and planning to get their reaction on tape etc, and when we told them, it was SO anti-climactic.  I think these 2 girls had been praying for this so long that when we finally told them they were like, oh yeah, well of course mom is pregnant, we knew God would answer our prayer, no big deal.  We were totally disappointed by their reaction, so we reenacted the telling, and told them they had to be super excited.   This is what we got on tape, its too funny!

Other November pics:
Gianna's soccer team won their division championship.
Chris helped coach the games, which he loved.
Elia was too young to play in the games, but she still went to practice every week, so she got an honorary trophy.

Why yes, you can sunbathe in November in Texas.

One week mama got all efficient and made sandwiches for the whole week.

Day before t giving I took the girls to IHOP

Chris had to work Friday and Saturday after thanksgiving,
so I took the girls to downtown Carrollton via the DART.  Fun times!
